Celebrating 25 Years of Service
Opening its doors September, 2001, the RDC team is proud to recognize its 25 years of contribution to UBC’s research community.
The Research Data Centre is a research facility at The University of British Columbia. It is part of the Canadian Research Data Centre Network (CRCDN). This collaborative initiative aims to strengthen Canada’s social research capacity, support policy-relevant research, and provide insights on important issues by increasing the use of Statistic Canada’s rich data for academic and policy-relevant research. The RDC Network program encourages researchers to collaborate on team projects. The UBC RDC can support both individual and team research projects. We can also facilitate team projects conducted in more than one RDC within British Columbia and across Canada. We are supported by our partner universities, SSHRC/CIHR, and Statistics Canada to facilitate access to data for crucial social research while protecting the confidentiality and security of Canadians’ information.
Eligibility
Access to the UBC-RDC is free for UBC students working on theses or other degree requirements, and for UBC employees performing academic research.

RDCs located throughout the country mean researchers are not obliged to travel to Ottawa to access Statistics Canada data.

Researchers interested in using the UBC Research Data Centre or any of the other Research Data Centres should visit the Microdata Access Portal. The application includes a research project proposal that is peered reviewed on the basis of academic merit and need for access to the confidential microdata. Since the application process can take up to eight weeks, researchers should submit their applications well before planning to access the centre.

Absolutely! RDCs across the country are networked together, facilitating collaboration across multiple sites.
